Olaola Electric Heater is KUMIOK 's 4th collaboration project. Olaola is a story and a spell. It is the story of the spiral flame discovered along the traces of the primordial goddess in an unknown civilization, and a spell of life. In this project, We invite you into the story of Olaola—where life is born from warmth, gone after existence, and born again.

‘올라올라 전기히터’는 쿠미옥의 4번째 콜라보레이션 프로젝트입니다. 올라올라는 이야기이자 주문입니다. 이는 미지의 문명 속 한 여신의 흔적을 따라 발견한 ‘순환의 불꽃’에 대한 이야기이며, 생명의 주문이기도 합니다. 온기 속 생명이 탄생하고, 삶을 태우고, 다시 생명이 탄생하는 ‘순환의 불꽃’ 에 대한 이야기를 시작합니다.

Goddess and the spiral flame

From ancient times, the primal deity was always a goddess. She governed the inception of life, as well as the cycle of nature. The Goddess featured in the story of Olaola, is also an icon of abundance. She is the one who started the intense and brilliant veins of fire flow in spiral, and gave life to the vanished island.

This vein of fire, revered by civilizations since ancient times, was called the spiral flame. The flame, swirling at the heart of the earth, is a Goddess itself. She gives birth to life with its warmth, consumes life with its heat, therefore takes charge of the circle of life.

태초에는 여신이 있었습니다. 생명의 근원이자 생과 사를 관장하는 순환의 모태로 묘사되는 여신들. 이 이야기 속의 여신 또한 마찬가지입니다. 오래 전, 그녀가 품고 있는 강렬하고도 찬란한 불은 잊혀진 섬에 삶을 가져다 주었습니다. 고대 문명 속 사람들은 그 나선형의 불을 ‘순환의 불꽃’ 이라고 불렀습니다. 대지의 중심을 타고 흐르는 이 불꽃은 여신의 힘이자, 그녀 자체입니다. 불꽃은 온기로 생명을 탄생시켰고, 열기로 삶을 거두었으며, 다시 생명을 탄생시킨 순환의 근원입니다.

Legends of the Goddess of abundance and the spiral flame have descended upon a vanished island in the records. Back when there was only the vast expanse of the sea, with no island but the great sea, group of people wandering aimlessly across the sea in search of a place to settle, stumbled upon the mystical flame.

기록에서 사라진 대해 속 한 섬에는 풍요의 여신과 순환의 불꽃에 대한 전설이 내려온다.
섬 하나 없이 대해만이 펼쳐져 있던, 언제인지 모를 고대 시대.
정착할 안식처를 찾아 바다를 떠돌던 한 일족이 발견한 신비로운 순환의 불꽃.

As the Goddess embraced the spiral flame, she became the land for the tribe. Looking up at the Goddess, who became a rich land herself, the tribe called her Olaola.

순환의 불꽃을 품은 여신은 망망대해 위 삶의 터전이 되어주었고,

부족은 무(無)의 바다 위에서 풍요의 땅을 만든 여신을 ‘올라올라’라고 불렀다.

Olaola conceived and reaped every life on land. Stories say that the tribe has praised her benevolence and abundance by chanting the spell Olaola. However, the record of the island was only told through legends of several Polynesian minority tribes, and no one has ever reached or found anything about it.

Thousands of years later today, archaeologist K revealed records and evidence that this forgotten civilization actually exists.

그 대지의 생명을 잉태하고, 거두는 여신 ‘올라올라’.
부족은 ‘올라올라’라는 주문을 외치며 그녀의 자애로움과 풍요로움을 추앙해 왔다.
그러나 이 섬에대한 기록은 폴리네이시아 소수 민족의 전설로만 내려올 뿐 누구도 섬을 찾지 못했다.

그로부터 수천년이 지난 오늘, 이 잊혀진 문명이 실제로 존재한다는 기록과 증거를 고고학자 K가 세상에 공개했다.

속보입니다. 세계 미스테리 중 하나인 ‘올라올라’ 문명을 고고학자 K씨가 발견했다는 소식입니다.

OLAOLA, The Brand.

Olaola is a story and a spell. And that's why I wanted to add the vitality of the story to the brand. Rather liquid-looking logotype expresses vitality, and the symbols share the same DNA with the logotype. I focused mainly on harmonizing the symbols and textures from nature under a same tone, therefore designing Olaola, the brand, a living creature.

올라올라는 살아 숨쉬는 이야기이자, 주문입니다. 이야기의 생명력을 브랜드 아이덴티티로 표현하고자 하였습니다. 정형화되지 않고 움직이는 듯한 로고타입은 자연의 생명력을 담고 있습니다. 또한 순환의 불꽃 심볼을 메인으로, 심볼과 자연물에서 차용한 질감이 조화를 이룰 수 있도록 디자인하여 올라올라만의 생동감있는 브랜드 무드를 연출했습니다.

OLAOLA Design Inspiration

Olaola electric heater is inspired by the noble form of female. We emphasized the points where the volumes meet, and highlighted the gracefully extending curves. Additionally, we designed vent holes based on the muscles of the back when bent backward. A carved line the top of the neck, extending to the abdomen, is a touch-sensitive power button, while the dial at the heart adjusts the temperature.

‘올라올라 전기 난로 오브제’는 고귀한 여성의 신체를 모티브로 삼았습니다. 디자인의 핵심으로 볼륨과 볼륨이 만나는 지점을 강조하면서 우아하게 펼쳐지는 곡선을 채택했습니다. 또한, 등을 뒤로 접었을 때의 등 근육을 기준으로 벤트홀을 디자인했습니다. 목의 상단부터 복부까지 이어진 음각은 터치형 전원 버튼으로써, 쓸어내리고 싶은 본능적인 이끌림을 유도하였습니다. 심장부분의 다이얼은 온도를 조절하는 다이얼입니다.

OLAOLA Design Process

This is the process of refining the sculpture. We focused most of the time sketching. We consider a full-sized paper mock-up as an essential process of design. In this project, sculpting and wax modeling processes were added to find a streamlined, voluminous form.

조형을 다듬어가는 과정입니다. 스케치에 가장 많은 시간을 투자했으며, 실물 크기의 종이 목업 또한 필수입니다. 이번 작업에서는 ‘스컬핑’과 ‘넙스’ 과정을 추가하여 유선형의 볼륨감 있는 조형을 찾았습니다.
